  -----Jane Eyre

I chose Jane Eyre for my reading task this time. Because her simple and kind character were touched my heart.

Jane Eyre was written by Bronte who was an England female. First of all, I want to introduce some details which contain the characters of Jane Eyre. In Gateshead, Jane Eyre was only ten years old. Jane fought with her aunt and cousin when they maltreated and discriminated her cruelly. When Mrs. Reed told her to go away from her son, she shouted “They didn’t have the qualified to stand with me”. When she was isolated from everyone and be locked in the red house she showed her stubborn of fight. The read house was an evil place where her uncle had dead several years ago. When she was in the school and her best friend was hit by the teachers, she told her friend:”If I were you, I’d hate her. If she hit me with a stick, I’d seize it and break it under her nose.” All these details showed that Jane Eyre has a strong resist spirits.

Strong, plain, independent and aggressive were all her characters.

Although she was an ordinary and poor girl, she never felt herself inferior. She looked down upon the arrogant of the rich and laughed at their

foolish. She presented a kind of beautiful human spirit. She was the moral center in this story. All in all, in her period, people were crazy about

money and power. They stood on true love and abandon all dignity. They chose rich and left poor alone even they fell in love. Little amount of people would abandon all the things which they had in order to found true love and respect just like Jane Eyre. In this aspect, I adored her or even envy her. She was like an angle in my dark days.

I believe this book was a feminist novel. Jane Eyre was a female who has a kind heart, and she loved thinking. Although she lived in the bottom of the whole society and suffered a lot of hardship, she had a kind of spirit which encourage her to pursuit her happiness and peaceful life. She got rid of all the prejudices and customs to find true love which based on mutual understandings and mutual respect. Jane Eyre was a female who was brave enough to fight with restriction and pursuit to an equal position. When she heard the news which Mr. Rochester was going to marry with Miss. Ingram, she was prepared to go away. Jane Eyre said to Mr. Rochester, “I can’t stay! Do you think I can watch another woman

become your bride? Do you think I’m a machine, without feelings? Do you think, because I’m small and poor and plain, that I have no soul and no heart? Well, you’re wrong! I have as much soul and heart as you. It is my spirit that speaks to your spirit! We are equal in the sight of God!” It showed that Jane Eyre was fight against oppress and society prejudices. She wanted to achieve the independence of dignity, respect and her happy life. So it was obvious that this novel was a feminist novel.

As we all knew that this novel was an autobiography novel, it wrote by Bronte and used her heart and strong pursuit. It showed the feelings and characters of author self. She wanted to won a radiant future for all the females and she succeeded. When I read the biography about Bronte, I could find a lot of similarities between the story and her real life. There were lots of details about the social classes. Jane Eyre said, “I was most impressed by the beauty and elegance of all of them, but was especially fascinated by the Ingram family. Lady Ingram, although between forty and fifty, was still a fine woman. Her hair still looked black, by candle-

light at least, and her teeth still seemed perfect. But she had fierce, proud eyes that reminded me of Mrs. Reed’s, and a hard, powerful voice.” These inner thoughts showed that there were social classes and social prejudices.

Miss. Ingram was a beautiful female and her hot pursuit Mr. Rochester not for the love between them but money he had. St. John asked Jane Eyre to marry him. The only reason was Jane was the fittest one to be a wife of missionary and his assistance. Jane refused him and he went India alone. Mr. Rochester was the master of Thornfield. He possessed wealth and health. When he was young, he leaded an optional life. Then he met Jane and determined to live carefully. Among these persons, Jane was a perfect girl with dignity, respect, love and brave. She considered that true love should base on equal spirits and not depend on the positions, wealth and appurtenances they had in the sociality. Only if all of them paid true heart to each other, they could get the real happy. Compared with those

persons I just mentioned, Jane showed a na?ve, simple feeling and courage. She saw nothing about Mr. Rochester expected his attitude towards every person.

In a word, Jane won’t bear the oppression from the society, and she had the courage to pursue personal happiness. Whether her poor low social status, or her drift in accordance with no life experience, it is the real portraiture of British people at that time. Just because the description of Miss. Ingram, St. John and Mr. Rochester, Jane’s character was so obvious that could be the vivid contract.

I love this story and I was moved by the action what Jane did. It’s a heart touching story indeed.

  Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

  (Book Report)

Jane Eyre ranks as one of the greatest and most perennially popular works of English fiction. Although the poor but plucky heroine is outwardly of plain appearance, she possesses an indomitable spirit, a sharp wit and great courage. She is forced to battle against the exigencies of a cruel guardian, a harsh employer and a rigid social order. All of which circumscribe her life and position when she becomes governess to the daughter of the mysterious, sardonic and attractive Mr Rochester.

However, there is great kindness and warmth in this epic love story, which is set against the magnificent backdrop of the Yorkshire moors. This book, Jane Eyre, tell us that Jane?s life is filled with pains and suffering until the time of youth, but lastly she herself wins truly love. Jane?s father is a poor reverend. Unfortunately, her parents passed away when she was just a very young girl. Jane is sent to her aunt?s home, at the hands of her rich aunt and cousins, she suffers a childhood with no respect and dignity, as “a position even lower than the servants” is described in the book. Later, Jane is sent to Lowood School to receive education. Although her life was even harder and more miserable, she found love and care from Helen Burns and Miss Temple. Jane, as an orphan, suffered all kinds of obloquy and ignominy, and then she turn into a girl of self-help, self-respect and self-assurance. After she graduated, she stays on the school as a teacher, and only two years she leaves the school, due to its solitude and apartness, and then finds a work as a private governess in Thornfield. Jane becomes free and independent, just as spring has come into her life. Jane not only finds respect, love, friends and money, but also develops a strong relationship with the cold and bad-tempered master, Mr. Rochester. They fell in love with each other. Like a flower, their love starts to bloom. Shortly, they decide to get married. On the day of the wedding, Jane finds out that Mr. Rochester has a wife, a mad woman, living on the top of the tower, who makes weird laughter at night. She decides to leave him although he desperately begs her to stay.

For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, ?The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose?, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.

To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people?s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ?kindness?, they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

Francis Bacon said in his essay, ?Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, no better than a kind of vermin.? That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore, I, a kind person, want to tell those ?vermin-to-be? to learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.

  Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

  (Book Report)

I received a full English of Jane Eyre from my big brother when I entered the collage. It gave me a deeply influence after I reading it.As we all know,Jane Eyre was Charlotte Bronte’s representative works. It was also a milestoneworks in English literature. It was published in 1847, then it arouse a blow to English literature.Although it had caused some critics, it also received popularity among the public. Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre,a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think: We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.

Jane Eyre told us the story that Jane accepts a governess position at a manor called Thornfield which employer is a dark, impassioned man named Rochester after she spends eight more years at Lowood. Jane found herself falling in love with him. On the wedding day , Jane found that Rochester already had a wife, Bertha . Then Jane left Thornfield sadly.Without food and money, Jane was forced to sleep outdoors and beg for food. At last, three kind-hearted people took her in. Their names are Mary, Diana, and St. John, and then Jane quickly became friends with them. One day a news said that her uncle, John Eyre, has died and left her a large property. Then she found that her uncle was also their uncle.Jane immediately decides to share her property with her three new cousins.St. John decided to travel to India, and he asked Jane as his wife. She refused to marry her cousin because she did not love him at all. Finally she found the man who she really loved so much was Rochester.Jane immediately went back to Thornfield and found that it had been burned to the ground by his mad wife. Rochester saved the servants but lost his eyesight and one of his hands. At Ferndean, Rochester and Jane finally got married. At the end of the story, Rochester regained sight in one eye and was able to behold their first son at his birth. Then they lived a happy life forever.

After reading the novel, the image in the story may catch our attention. For instance, the fire image appeared in the story for dozens of times in different chapters. But no matter where it was put, it had symbolic meanings in some chapters. It was the symbol of warmth and happiness, while in other place it was thesymbol of humanity and friendship, sometimes it even represented destructive power. In the story, the fire image impressed us a lot while reading it, fire plays an important role in the frame of the novel. Jane Eyre who was a strongwilled woman, tried her best to fight for her own happiness and love as well as freedom, for example “Now,let me leave you an instant to make a good fire?”sowe can see that Rochester saw the magic power of “fire” in love.

Jane Eyre behaved strong-minded enough to her love and brave enough to seek her own independence.God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her

a kind mind and a thinking brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.

At last,to be frank, Jane’s ideal life is the reflection of the Charlotte Bronte’s thoughts. Maybe we can say that Charlotte uses this great novels to express her feelings on the contemporary society. Her story makes us thinking about life and we learn much from her experience, at least, that is a fresh new recognition of the real beauty.

A Book Report of Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is a classic romance novel by Charlotte Bront? which was published in 1847 by Smith, Elder & Company, London, and is one of the most famous British novels of all time. Charlotte Bront? first published the book as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography under the pseudonym Currer Bell, and it was an instant success, earning the praise of many reviewers, including William Makepeace Thackeray, to whom Charlotte Bront? dedicated her second edition. The story is that of a governess, Jane Eyre. Despite her plainness, she captures the heart of her enigmatic employer, Edward Rochester, but soon discovers he has a secret that could jeopardize any hope of happiness between them .Published in 1847, Jane Eyre brought almost instant fame to its obscure author, the daughter of a clergyman in a small mill town in northern England. On the surface, the novel embodies stock situations of the Gothic novel genre such as mystery, horror, and the classic medieval castle setting; many of the incidents border on (and cross over into) melodrama. The story of the young heroine is also in many ways conventional—the rise of a poor orphan girl against overwhelming odds, whose love and determination eventually redeem a tormented hero. Yet if this all there were to Jane Eyre, the novel would soon have been forgotten. In writing Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte did not write a mere romantic potboiler. Her book has serious things to say about a number of important subjects: the relations between men and women, women's equality, the treatment of children and of women, religious faith and religious hypocrisy (and the difference between the two), the realization of selfhood, and the nature of true love. But again, if its concerns were only topical, it would not have outlived the time in which it was written. The book is not a tract any more than it is a potboiler. It is a work of fiction with memorable characters and vivid scenes, written in a compelling prose style. In appealing to both the head and the heart, Jane Eyre triumphs over its flaws and remains a classic of nineteenth-century English literature and one of the most popular of all English novels. Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think: We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past. We remember her pursuit of justice. It’s like a companion with the goodness. But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side. We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God’s feet. Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality. We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence…

When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality. Actually, she wasn’t pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn’t make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when Miss Ingram met Jane Eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than ‘the plain and ugly governess’. But as the little governess had said: ‘Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and This is the idea of equality in Jane Eyre’s mind. God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body. In my mind, though a person’s beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is attractive and charming, if his or her mind isn’t the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty cannot last for, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it’s not true, they will like the person no more. For a long time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as an everlasting beauty just as Kahill Gibran has said, that Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted’. I can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all fleshly men, so we can’t distinguish whether

a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men, so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not. Her story makes us thinking about life and we learn much from her experience, at least, that is a fresh new recognition of the real beauty. Feelings of Reading JANE EYRE Useful expression

If all the world hated you, and believed you wicked, while your own conscience approved you, and absolved you from guilt, you would not be without friends.

Prejudices, it is well known, as most difficult to eradicate from the heart whose soil has never been loosened or fertilized by education: they grow there, firm as weeds among stones.

Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs. The type of materials in this book is written in English, and the topic area is literature. I spent reading the book for 2 months. In the world history of literature, some many classical famous works are going to be immortal, but Jane Eyre deeply enters people's soul deeply, it by irresistible intrinsic deep has attracted the tens of thousands of readers deeply, has affected people's inner world, is in the world history of literature the eternal classics. When Jane Eyre was a baby, her parents died. So she had to live with her uncle and his family. Unfortunately, her uncle also went away several years later. Then Jane was sent to the Logwood, which was a charity school and became a teacher there when she grown up. Later she left it to become a governess of Adela Varens, the ward of Mr. Edward Rochester, a Thornfield Manor. Later, Jane and Mr. Rochester fell in love with each other, and they decided to get married. But Mr. Rochester was revealed that he had a wife during the wedding ceremony. So Jane left Thornfield and Mr. Rochester. Otherwise Mr. Rochester’s wife was crazy. One day, she made a fire. Mr. Rochester tried his best to save his wife, but failed and his eyes were burnt and he became blind. The terrible news came to Jane, she came back to Mr. Rochester hurriedly. Jane told Mr. Rochester that she still loved him a lot, and tried her best to cheer him up. Finally, they got married, and had a lovely baby. This book enthralled me with the charm of language, and brought home to me the great wealth of English words and phrases. But this book is too difficult to me, and I had to look up a number of words. If there are explains of some difficult words, I think it will be much better. The figure of Jane Eyre had the greatest impact on me. After I close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think: I remember her goodness, her pursuit of justice, her self-respect and the clear situation on equality, her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence… The writing of the book is effective, beautiful and even fascinating. The author is skillful in telling stories. I can easily find out the characters of these dramatis personages. Behind the wonderful story, the author expressed her strong dissatisfactions to the society then. The author thinks that people should be good educated, and everyone is equal, no matter male or female. The new facts that I hadn’t learn before is goodness. I remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past. To me, I think that I can hardly forgive those people who have hurt me deeply. May be it is good enough that not to do some revenge. As a result of reading this book, her story makes me thinking about life and I learn much from her experience, at least, that is a fresh new recognition of the real. I can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all fleshly men, so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men, so we can’t distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not. In essence, Bronte's novel became a direct assault on Victorian morality. Controversy based in its realistic exposure of thoughts once considered improper for a lady of the 19th century. Emotions any respectable girl would repress. Women at this time were not to feel passion, nor were they considered sexual beings. To conceive the thought of women expressing rage and blatantly retaliating against authority was defiance against the traditional role of women. Jane Eyre sent controversy through the literary community. For not only was it written by a woman but marked the first use of realistic characters. Jane's complexity lied in her being neither holy good or evil. She was poor and plain in a time when society considered "an ugly woman a blot on the face of creation." It challenged Victorian class structure in a strictly hierarchal society. A relationship between a lowly governess and a wealthy nobleman was simply unheard of. Bronte drew criticism for her attack on the aristocracy who she deemed as hypocritical "showy but ... not genuine." She assaulted individual's already established morals by presenting a plausible case for bigamy. Jane Eyre Dolor XX2136063 Fall semester XXAugust 20, XX Book report 2

Jane Eyre is the masterpiece of Charlotte Bronte, an English woman author in 19th century. The works possess romanticism and realism. It is also thought that this book is author’s autobiography. Introduction of Jane Eyre

Jane was a pure and thinkable woman, who lived in substrata of society and struck with life. But she was fractious and the sprite of perusing happiness. The works sing the love respecting each other and break away from conman customs and preoccupation. The most successful of this book is to figure a female image who dared to gainst and try for liberte and egalite. Characteristics of characters

Jane Eyre was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. She had a terrible childhood but it’s not affected her future because she is poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. Jane was also a thinkable woman in her love, she thought love is equal, free and respecting, so she gain a happy ending with beautiful personality. My thoughts of Jane Eyre

Jane owns goodness for her lover, Rochester, who lost arms and eyes, and also for someone who had hurt her. Jane owns pursuit for justice; it helps her to promote goodness on one side and check the badness on the other side. Jane owns self-respect and clear situation on equality. Also her life experience is hardships, but she never underrates herself. She thinks everyone is the same. She has the right to gain happiness through hardworking. Jane owns toughness, confidence and striving for life……

She is not beautiful and wealthy and very normal in conman’s mind. But in my opinion, the beauty on the face is not important than in the heart because the beauty of heart could live forever but not the beauty of face.

So, to me or to all girls in the world, we needn’t inferiority and complaint with ourselves if we don’t have beauty and wealth because the true happiness is not gained by the tow things. Actually, we should learn to be a person who is like Jane, how fearless woman. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (Book Report)

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte (Book Report)
